Anatomy of an episode

How It Works

  1. 01

    Cold open and credits

A campy sci-fi announcer drops Steve and Nathan into this week's town. "This week we drop Steve and Nathan in the riverside town of Pascagoula, Mississippi…"

  2. 02

    What the brochure says

They read the official tourism description out loud, straight-faced, and give the popular stops their due. Then: "But we're not here for any of that."

  3. 03

    Three stories

Three pieces of weird folklore the locals know and the brochure skips, with guest clips from the people who live with them, and a commercial break between each.

  4. 04

    Eating and sleeping

Where to eat, where to stay, what to do. They read the menus, imagine how good the food might be, and tell you to say hi if you get there before them.

  5. 05

    Extra Baggage

The following Tuesday, members get the extended episode: one thread from the town, pulled all the way out.

Messages from the front desk

The Project

Strange Visitors is a travel show for people who want to be somewhere, not just know about it. Steve and Nathan go looking for the places that inject novelty into a life, the hidden histories and cultural ghosts of the American uncanny, and they come back with a map.

The podcast is the front door. Behind it: the Weird Atlas, a growing folklore map of America; the Trip Builder, which plans a real itinerary around the places from the show and our research; and the Weird Travel Club, where members earn Frequent Flyer Miles for every episode and unlock Extra Baggage.

Not parody. Not academic. Not ghost-hunter TV. Curious, grounded, slightly unsettled travel. If a choice ever feels too spooky, too jokey, or too slick, we pull back.

Field notes

  • America is haunted by its own stories.
  • Travel as the archaeology of myth.
  • Small towns as psychic residue.
  • A punk sensibility applied to folklore.
  • Calmly aware that something is off.

Part travel show, part paranormal adventure, the series proves that every town has its own unseen wonders and weird folklore.
